Dr. Andrea Newton
Dr. Andrea Newton joined Family Dental Clinic in 2002 after graduating from the University of Minnesota, School of Dentistry. She grew up in Aberdeen, South Dakota, and moved to Minnesota in 1994 to attend college. She is a member of the American Dental Association, Minnesota Dental Association, the Minneapolis District Dental Society, and the Women’s Metro Study Club. In addition, Dr. Newton is very active in the Give Kids a Smile Program. Each year she opens her practice up to the community and provides free dental care to children of need. For her, the most rewarding part of being a dentist is being able to see families grow over the years. She enjoys all areas of dentistry and especially loves seeing people walk out of her office with a beautiful smile.

Dr. Newton is an avid gardener, a Minnesota sports fan, and attends many theater events around the city. Her two young children also keep her quite busy. She often volunteers to help with their field trips and activities. Her experience as a mother has helped her to perfect her skills when working with her pediatric patients. She is excellent with children! Dr. Newton, her husband, and their children live Eagan.

Dr. Julie Clouse
Dr. Julie Clouse joined our team in January and is known by her patients as “Dr. Julie.” She was born and raised in Rochester, Minnesota, where she graduated from Mayo High School. She completed her undergraduate studies with high honors from St. Olaf College. Though her major was biology, she especially enjoyed her ceramics and sculpture courses. It was one of her art professors who suggested she think about dentistry as a way to use both her hands and her mind. Taking his advice, she was accepted into the University of Minnesota, School of Dentistry, and graduated in 2004. Wanting to further hone her skills, she completed a residency at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center. Following her residency, Dr. Julie spent five years as the director and dentist of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux community.

Dr. Julie is very active in the Minnesota Dental Association and this year is being presented with the 2011 Minnesota Dental Association Leadership Award. She has traveled extensively in the US and abroad. She has also participated in several dental outreach missions in Honduras. In her free time, Dr. Julie enjoys visiting a new major league ballpark every year (it’s even better if the Twins are playing). In addition, she loves reading and has been collecting orchids since she was in college and has about 150 of them in every shape and color. She lives in the Twin Cities area with her husband Ryan, who is also a dentist, and their retired racing greyhound Jani and cat Ping.

Dr. Richard Sorenson
After forty years of practice Dr. Richard Sorenson has retired. He is now able to dedicate more of his energy to his mission work at the Union Gospel Mission and Mission of Mercy in Honduras. He is also looking forward to spending a lot of time with his children and grandchildren. Though he is missed by his patients and staff, we are glad that he is able to continue with the work that is dear to him.

Dr. Mike Reynolds
Dr. Mike Reynolds left our clinic at the end of the year. He decided to return to University of Iowa, School of Dentistry, to specialize in endodontics (root canals). We were sad to see him go since he developed so many close relationships with his patients. We are, however, happy for him that he made the choice to pursue his dream of becoming a specialist.
